CCTV firm now accepts bitcoin

KUALA LUMPUR: DNA Asia (M) Sdn Bhd, a leading local closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance security system distributor, reseller and system integrator, has started accepted bitcoin transactions as mode of payment for its services.

Further, the company are also engaging in purchasing transactions with suppliers and buyers across the globe using bitcoin.

Business development director Francis Koh said bitcoin now are accepted worldwide and many companies, especially the ones in Europe and Middle East, are requesting bitcoin as mode of payment for our product purchases and services.

"We are conducting transaction with our buyers in Germany and Egypt using bitcoin. Adding to that, all transactions with our suppliers and buyers in China are done using bitcoin," Francis told NST Business.

He said bitcoin as mode of payment is now gaining popularity in Malaysia, citing recent news reports of some local stalls accepting digital currency as mode of payment in Malaysia.

Recently, Jijah’s NK Stall, a nasi kerabu stall in Kelantan has offered customers the option to pay in bitcoins.

"We believe bitcoin as mode of payment will be widely accepted in Malaysia, especially in business transactions, just like how it is practised in Europe and Middle East," he said.

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim earlier this month said a concept paper on cryptocurrency will be finalised this month and will be made available for the public to decide on the future of digital currency.

He said BNM aims to make the promoter of the cryptocurrency, which include bitcoin, ethereum and ripple, to be more transparent and the people behind it transparent as well.
