Bank Rakyat to continue Islamic Banker Programme for the second edition

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Rakyat has recently launched its second edition of the Islamic Banker Programme which aims to produce future leaders for the banking industry.

Introduced in 2017, the programme recently received recognition from the 26th World HRD Congress 2018 by winning three top awards – Innovation in Recruitment, Best Apprenticeship and Usage of Digital Media in Recruitment.

The programme is staging a comeback following an overwhelming response of 6,744 applications in its first edition, with 30 top trainees from the first edition have already been chosen and started their two-year programme last January.

The selection criteria includes, applicants must be 26 years old and below, degree graduates with CGPA above 2.75, a team player, active in co-curricular activities, conscientious, analytical thinker, innovative and full of ideas.

Throughout the training period, each trainee will be assigned to a mentor from the senior management team who will be responsible in guiding them throughout the program by assimilating them into Bank Rakyat’s work cultures.

Initially, each trainee will go through a two-month training program before they undergo job rotation across the key business units within the Bank for 10 months.

This is to make sure that they will be given maximum exposure of the Bank's managements and operations.

Then, they will be placed in a particular sector based on their respective strengths and interests for a year. At the end, their performance will be assessed before being offered permanent placement at Bank Rakyat.

Through this Islamic Banker Programme, every successful participants who managed to complete their two year internship will also be awarded with the Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance (CPIF) certificate from the Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals (CIIF).

The collaboration between Bank Rakyat and CIIF provide a fast-track CPIF pathway as it ensures it will be done within two years instead of three for the normal participants.
