KUALA LUMPUR: Gas Malaysia Bhd has appointed Sharifah Sofia Syed Mokhtar Shah as the company’s non-executive director.
In an exchange filing today, Gas Malaysia said the appointment is effective today, citing that Sharifah Sofia is the daughter to Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Shah bin Syed Nor, an indirect major shareholder of Anglo Oriental (Annuities) Sdn Bhd, which is a major shareholder of the company.
Sharifah Sofia also sits on the boards of four other companies linked to her father, namely DRB-HICOM Bhd, Pos Malaysia Bhd, Malakoff Corp Bhd and MMC Corp Bhd.
She was the former special officer to Pos Malaysia Bhd group chief executive officer, an external consultant of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and summer analyst, of investment banking at Morgan Stanley, Singapore.
In a separate filing, Gas Malaysia said Datuk Hasni Harun had been re-designated from his role of non-independent non-executive chairman to independent and non-executive chairman of the board.
Hasni, 61, was the former group managing director of MMC Corp from May 2010 to May 2013.
