KUALA LUMPUR: FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp, has upgraded its aircraft fleet with the introduction of the Boeing 767-300 Freighter (B767F) in Malaysia.
The express transportation company said the cargo freighter will further strengthen its delivery capabilities in and out of Malaysia, providing over-night connections to 20 major cities in Asia, while facilitating two-business-day shipping services to the U.S. and Europe.
“The introduction of B767F service is part of FedEx long-term commitment to delivering outstanding service to our customers in Malaysia, through the constant enhancement of our capabilities,” said FedEx Express Malaysia managing director SC Chong.
Chong added the operational efficiencies of the B767F would enable the company to meet the increasing volume of imports and exports to and from Malaysia, particularly local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Klang Valley.
The SME segment has been at the core of Malaysia’s economic transformation to an upper-middle-income nation.
Chong said the segment remains an important driver of employment and growth, accounting for 97 percent of Malaysian businesses, 65 percent of workforce employment, and 36 per cent of Malaysia’s gross domestic product.
Klang Valley has accounted for more than one-third of total SMEs in the country, with 19.8 percent in Selangor and 14.7 percent in Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysian SMEs also contributed 17.8 percent of the country’s total exports with an expectant rise to 23 percent by year 2020
Operating from Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang and Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas, the B767F has about 48,081kg of cargo lift with 75 percent increase in load and a 30 percent increase in fuel efficiency.
