Malaysian hotels a top pick among budget travellers

KUALA LUMPUR: Renting of hotel rooms through apps and websites has become more popular in Malaysia, according to Southeast Asia’s largest hotel chain OYO Hotels.

The online platforms had made it possible for more budget travellers to find reasonably priced and conducive places to stay in the country, it added.

This was due to a combination of factors such as a higher-than-average mobile penetration and a large internet population.

OYO Hotels said the budget hotels’ market share of the hospitality sector in Malaysia was growing rapidly. It is estimated at US$2 billion to US$3 billion as of last year.

“Kuala Lumpur is one of the most significant destinations for business travellers, which requires quick and fuss-free booking process,” it said in a statement.

The hotel chain also listed out its top 10 budget hotels in the Klang Valley.

They include Lodge Paradize Hotel at Bukit Bintang, Puteri Ampang Hotel and Aira Hotel here, YP Boutique Hotel in Petaling Jaya and SMC Alam Avenue in Shah Alam.

Completing the list are I Hotel Kuala Lumpur, I Hotel Kota Damansara, Damansara Inn in Damansara Jaya, I Boutique Hotel in Petaling Jaya and Chinee Hotel here.
