1Mine urges govt to postpone SST implementation

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has been urged to postpone implementation of the Sales and Services Tax (SST) come Sept 1 until a directive on the newly passed tax law is clearly outlined.

Malaysian Indian Network of Entrepreneurs Association President (1Mine) Datuk S Gopinath said currently, small medium enterprises, had yet to receive any guidelines regarding the implementation which has created confusion among businessmen.

“Businesses have yet to get the blueprint on the SST and various concerns linger over implementation of the tax,” he told Bernama today.

He also said the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) needs to engage with stakeholders further before implementing the tax to avoid confusion.

“During implementation of the Goods and Services Tax, the RMCD did engagement sessions with stakeholders for nearly a year.  We are now 15 days away from the SST’s implementation, but the directive is still unclear,” he added.

The Service Tax Bill 2018 was passed in the Dewan Rakyat on Aug 8 to repeal the GST Act 2014.
