Malaysian Refining Company is the overall winner at APIC 2018

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Refining Company Sdn Bhd, last night, emerged triumphantly the overall winner of the TEAM EXCELLENCE NATIONAL CONVENTION, MITI Minister trophy organised by the Malaysia Productivity Corp.

In an interview with the New Straits Times, Malaysian Refining Company chief executive officer Hashim Majid spoke with pride of his team winning this pinnacle trophy.

"This is the first time our team won the highest level of this competition by Malaysia Productivity Corp. I'm so proud and happy for my staff members," he said.

"All in eight teams of about 50 staff took part this year. I must say, they have been preparing thoroughly and rehearsing with many brainstorming sessions. It has been more than a year's effort," Hashim added.

Last night, some 2,200 people attended the Annual Productivity & Innovation Conference and Exposition (APIC) 2018 organised by the Malaysia Productivity Corp.

Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Dr. Ong Kian Ming presented the Team Excellence awards to the winners. Also present was Malaysia Productivity Corp chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim.

Malaysia Productivity Corp is an agency under the purview of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

Azman highlighted this year's edition of the APIC series saw participation from 305 groups representing 171 organisations. From that number, 58 per cent were from the private sector and 42 per cent from the public sector. The total number of participants totaled 2,404.

"Looking ahead, we would like to see more circles presenting improvements driven by innovative ideas and best practices incorporating Industry 4.0 pillars," said Azman, in his speech.

The APIC series, since its inception in 2011, has been able to generate interest and promote drive for higher workplace productivity.  

"So, for the record, I am happy to note in the last eight years we have more than 1,000 teams comprising 9,000 members from 991 organisations with monetary savings of RM1.2 billion," he said.

The chairman was delighted to highlight Team Excellence innovators have participated in international platforms such as the International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC) which was held in Singapore on 22nd to 25th October 2018.

They will continue to represent Malaysia in the upcoming International Quality & Productivity Convention, (IQPC) in Batam on 26th November to 1st December 2018 and in Abu Dhabi 9th to 13th December 2018.
