Yayasan Bank Rakyat earmarks RM2.25 million for 2019 scholarships

KUALA LUMPUR: Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) has earmarked RM2.25 million in 2019 out of the total of RM24.88 million in education funds to offer scholarships to outstanding students who are pursuing their education at foundation and Bachelor’s Degree levels in public and private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia and abroad.

The Yayasan Bank Rakyat Scholarship was introduced to fulfil YBR’s objective of producing highly skilled human capital on par with the demand of the current job market.

Its chairman, Datuk Noripah Kamso said this initiative was part of YBR’s commitment to supporting the National Education Philosophy to nurture an individual’s potential towards becoming intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically balanced.

“YBR is committed to ensuring that every student has equal access to quality education regardless of their socioeconomic status in line with goal four of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Of the total RM24.88 million allocated for education funds, RM2.25 million is being earmarked for these Scholarships in 2019,” she said.

Since its establishment in 2007, YBR has allocated RM131.5 million worth of education funds as its commitment to the education sector in guaranteeing that young people who are assets to the nation have the capability to realise their true potential.

To date, YBR's education fund products have benefited 4,904 students across various family backgrounds.

To apply, candidates must be Malaysians aged 18 to 30 years embarking on their first semester on a full-time basis in the fields of science, computing, engineering, information technology, management and humanities.

Applicants who wish to further their studies at foundation or matriculation levels must at least have a score of 8As in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia 2018.

Meanwhile, those pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.50 in their Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM), Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia, foundation, matriculation or diploma.
