SEPANG: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM) is flying over 3,500 fresh stalks of tulips from the Netherlands in conjunction with Mother’s Day for KLM’s Annual Charity Tulip Sale.

Aimed at raising a minimum of RM20,000 funds, each of the tulip will be offered for sale at RM6 per stalk for charity.

KLM country manager Estee Ng said the airline is delighted to collaborate with Malaysia Airports to support the charity sale together with Sama Sama Hotel.

“After four-year absence, we hope that many will join us and purchase out beautiful air flown tulips for a minimum donation,” he said at a press conference after launching the KLM’s Charity Tulip Sale 2019 in conjunction with Mother’s Day, here, today

She added that the funds of this year’s charity sale will be donated to Hospis Malaysia to support of palliative care in Malaysia.

The sale will be held at the main terminal of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 10am at level 3 of the domestic arrival.

Initiated in 1998, the corporate social responsibility sale offers people to express their love and contribute to the less fortunate.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd corporate communications general manager Nik Anis Nik Zakaria said the airport operator would pledge 1,000 stalks of tulips to be given for the first 1,000 mothers on Mother’s Day at KLIA.

“We always render our unconditional support to our airline partners be it for their strategic, business or CSR initiative.

“KLM is one of our longest serving airline partners at KLIA, clocking 60 years of operations serving the European sector and providing convenient connectivity for our passengers through their routes,” she said.

Sama Sama Hotel KLIA general manager Sundra Kulendra said the hotel would also pledge 400 stalks of tulips to its guests on Mother’s Day to support the charity event.

“I believe flowers play an important part in various culture to show love and affection. Hence, the initiative of flying fresh tulips all the way from the Netherlands to Kuala Lumpur is just inspiring,” he said.

Hospis Malaysia’s director, strategy and communications Tham Su Ming said the sale initiative would enable the charity organisation to reach a generous collection of individuals to support its cause and honour mothers on special occasion.

“We would like to thank KLM for electing Hospis Malaysia as the beneficiary of this year’s Charity Tulip Sale,” she said.
