Former Firefly CEO to head TNG Digital?

PENANG: Malaysia Airlines Bhd’s (MAB) group chief revenue officer Ignatius Ong Ming Choy has been tipped to join e-wallet provider TNG Digital (TnG D) Sdn Bhd as its chief executive officer (CEO).

The New Straits Times has learnt that the new appointment is expected to take effect in two weeks.

The interim chief executive officer for TnG D, Syahrunizam Samsudin is said to return to his post as CEO of Touch n Go Sdn Bhd (TnG), a CIMB Group subsidiary.

Ong who served a year as the national airline’s group chief revenue officer was previously CEO of FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd from 2011.

He joined MAS in May 2004 as a manager in the project management department, and later served as manager in the programme management office and was also assistant general manager in the revenue management department before assuming his post as regional senior vice-president for Australia, New Zealand and South West Pacific.

Ong could not be reached for comment.

Earlier this week, MAB group CEO Izham Ismail had announced Ong’s departure and said the search of Ong’s replacement is underway.

“Ignatius is leaving MAB to take on a bigger role in corporate Malaysia, which is consistent with my aspiration to create leaders not just for MAB Group, but also for the country,” said Izham in a circular to staff.

Izham also said he will be overseeing all functions under the revenue division.

He had also announced the appointment of Bryan Foong Chee Yeong as group chief strategy officer - a newly created position - effective today (Aug 1).
