Aug 2019's new vehicles sales down 22 pc to 51,148 units

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s new vehicles sales fell 22 per cent to 51,148 units in August from 65,550 units posted in the same month, a year ago.

In a statement today, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said this was due to the absence of tax holidays.

Sales of passenger vehicles (PVs) decreased 16.08 per cent to 46,802 units from 55,772 units posted in August 2018, while sales of commercial vehicles (CVs) plunged 55.55 per cent to 4,346 units from 9,778 units.

MAA expects sales volume for September to remain at the August 2019 level due to shorter working month, resulting from longer public holidays.

Year-to-date sales eased 5.87 per cent to 398,335 units from 423,165 units in the same eights months last year.

Production of new vehicles declined 0.82 per cent to 47,000 units in August from 47,387 units recorded in the same month last year.

Production of PVs increased 2.57 per cent to 44,363 units from 43,250 units, while the output of CVs slipped 36.26 per cent to 2,637 units from 4,137 units a year ago.

In the first eaight months of this year, MAA said production of new vehicles eased 0.67 per cent to 380,940 from 383,498 units.

MAA said sales volume for September 2019 is expected to remain at August 2019 level due to shorter working month, resulting from longer public holidays.
