SDCF targets sales of 15,000 warm packs to hospitals

KUALA LUMPUR: SDCF Global Resource Sdn Bhd, which used to wholesale Muslim women headscarves, sees better prospects in selling therapeutic packs to the sports and healthcare sector.

In a statement issued today, SDCF founder Lau Min Thung said the reusable warm packs are suitable for physiology treatments at hospitals.

"We hope to increase heat pack sales by 30 per cent or 15,000 units, in the next 12 months, as we approach the healthcare sector," he said.

Heat therapy is primarily used for treating non-inflammatory body pain such as muscle stiffness, cramp and soreness.

When healthcare personnel conducts heat therapy on patients, it expands blood vessels while the muscles relax, creating a soothing effect for tissue healing.

Heat therapy helps to heal sports injuries and sooth body aches while elderly folks find relief in joint pains when their body blood circulation is enhanced.

Women, on the other hand, can use heat therapy to reduce feelings of bloat and discomfort during menstrual pains.

Lau said although his company is a small start-up, his team incorporates advanced materials and processing technologies to make these high-performance reusable packs, which proved to be fuss-free and safe.

"You only need to snap the aluminium coil to trigger it. The heat pack will instantly crystallise and warm up to 56 degrees Celsius, the ideal temperature for heat therapy," he said.

After the heat from the reusable warm pack dissipates, it becomes a solid piece of salt, which can then be recharged to its liquid state by immersing it in boiling water for 15 minutes.

Since the heat pack does not contain any batteries or electrical cords, it is safe and durable. "Our reusable warm pack is designed for customers' comfort and convenience," he said.

Lau highlighted the function of this high performance pack is inter-changeable. "It can also function as a cold pack when you refrigerate it."

Apart from heat therapies at hospitals, Lau said the Fire and Rescue Department also find his company product very useful in helping to warm up victims rescued from cold environment.

"We see huge sales growth prospects in the healthcare sector,” Lau said, adding his team has been selling the high performance packs, on a small scale, for five years.
