Ta Win incorporates new healthcare unit, strengthens downstream copper segment

KUALA LUMPUR: Ta Win Holdings Bhd today announced the incorporation of Ta Win Copper Biohealth Sdn Bhd (TWCBiohealth) as part of its long-term strategy to explore the downstream copper segment.

Ta Win group managing director Datuk Seri Ngu Tieng Ung said the company aims to expand its operations by looking into the application of antimicrobial copper and copper additives as well as the biochemistry and chemistry of copper and copper proteins, be it in terms of products, devices or services.

"To spearhead our journey in the downstream copper segment, we are pleased to inform that Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamed Hashim who brings with him close to 40 years of experience in related fields, will sit on the board of TWCBiohealth," he added.

With a background in Nuclear Science and Chemistry, Dr Zulkifli has held multiple senior roles in government services as well as directorships in corporate Malaysia.

He has also served as an expert for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Ta Win said with its natural antimicrobial properties, the application of antimicrobial copper-alloy in the healthcare sector can prevent frequently contacted surfaces from serving as a medium to transfer microorganisms as well as minimise the occurrence of hospital-acquired infections.

Copper is also an essential mineral and nutrient, which helps to maintain healthy bones, blood vessels, nerves and immune function. It also contributes to iron absorption.

It said while copper is naturally present in some foods, there are those that require the intake of copper through dietary supplements to avoid symptoms resulting from copper deficiency, such as anaemia and osteoporosis.
