Allo aims to facilitate 150,000 homes with HSBB by Q2 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: Allo Technology Sdn Bhd targets to facilitate 150,000 homes with high-speed broadband (HSBB) connectivity by the second quarter (Q2) of 2021, leveraging on parent Tenaga Nasional Bhd's (TNB) 18,000km fibre-optic existing infrastructure nationwide.

Chief executive officer Rodzi Ahmad said Allo aims to bridge the digital gap by providing fibre optic connectivity to more homepasses and enabling HSBB connectivity access in suburban areas, particularly underserved communities.

"This nationwide fiberisation initiative supports the government aspiration in increasing the HSBB penetration and helps to ensure that no one is left behind and all Malaysians get equal opportunities to grow, learn and empower their lives."

He added that homepasses allow telecommunication retail service providers (RSPs) to ride on Allo's fibre optic network.

"We welcome RSPs to benefit from the connectivity and serve customers.

"So far, Maxis, Astro and Digi have signed up and are already serving fixed broadband services to the end-user," he told the New Straits Times in an interview recently.

Allo expects to finalise the Access Agreement soon with Celcom followed by Unifi TM.

"The Open Access model allows many RSPs to ride on our infrastructure, creating a level playing field with healthy competition between RSPs and to expand their digital footprint nationwide.

"End users benefit by having more choice of services from multiple RSPs at competitive rates and are able to choose their preferred RSPs.

"This is to support the government's aspiration to widen the coverage of HSBB nationwide," he said.

Having acquired by TNB in 2018, Allo was previously known as Setia Haruman technology in 1999.

The company has played a pivotal role in providing world-class internet connectivity and other information and communication technology (ICT) services to Cyberjaya's master developer to elevate Cyberjaya as Global Tech Hub.

"We built the fiberisation of Cyberjaya areas including about 20,000 homes, offices building and data centre with 400km fibre optic cable within the smart city township," he said.

To date, Allo has embarked its fiberisation network nationwide and provided 17,000 homepasses in Melaka (Jasin, Alor Gajah, Malim Jaya and Ayer Keroh) and 9,800 in Menglembu, Perak.

Rodzi said Allo would embark on a large scale homepasses access to 40,300 homes in Johor to be ready by Q2 next year.

"We have a few projects in the pipeline to provide our service for 41,000 homes in Perak to be completed by this year-end and 26,800 homes in Kedah by early next year.

"We also aim to extend our services to suburban areas in Selangor and Negri Sembilan," he said.

Rodzi said the current fiberisation network for homes was capable of catering up to one GigaBytes per second (Gbps) HSBB services, depending on customers' or clients' requirements.

"The demand or take up rate is very encouraging in suburban areas where our infrastructure is ready. We would want to expand and enable more HSBB services to more homepasses nationwide.

"We would like to see more communities enjoying the HSBB services by the retail service providers," he added.
