KUALA LUMPUR: JA Assure Group, a multinational niche market InsurTech firm, has appointed Dr Kasturi Maniam as the face and ethos of Doctor Shield.
Doctor Shield is an online professional indemnity insurance platform to all medical professionals in 147 APHM member hospitals beginning September 2020.
In a statement today, JA Assure said Dr Kasturi had been appointed as the new managing director of Doctor Shield division.
The company said she would spearhead further inroads in making Doctor Shield the first port of call for all medical professionals across Malaysia to establish and renew their annual medical malpractice insurance – a vital component for all practising doctors to renew their medical licence.
"Kasturi has a lot of experience in the medical field and is well-liked by both patients and peers alike, and has been a rising star in terms of medical management, having held the position of Head of Indemnity at AON," it said.
JA Assure chief executive officer and founder of Doctor Shield Japhire Gopi believes Dr Kasturi was the best person to lead the division.
Gopi said she was someone who not only understands the business realities, but also had an intimate understanding of doctors and the medical professional.
"We would like to believe that today's announcement is yet another example of our innovative approach to indemnity insurance, where we spare no effort in offering true protection to our doctor clientele," he said.
Doctor Shield was released in June 2019 without much fanfare but has since captured the attention of medical professionals via word-of-mouth.
The insurer said the take-up rate had grown exponentially, and a significant base of doctors had now been served by Doctor Shield, with the professional indemnity underwritten by Chubb Insurance, a global player in the insurance industry.
Doctor Shield policies are underwritten by Chubb Insurance Malaysia Bhd, an established general insurance company in Malaysia.
