Ta Win to set up Malaysia's first privately-owned electron beam irradiation plant

KUALA LUMPUR: Ta Win Holdings Bhd will set up an electron beam irradiation plant in a partnership with a Chinese company.

Ta Win today said its subsidiary Cyprium Wire Technology Sdn Bhd had entered into a sales and consultancy agreement with CGN Dasheng Electron Accelerator Technology Co Ltd on the establishment.

Ta Win said this would mark the first local privately-owned facility of such kind for Malaysia.

"The agreement entails the purchase of Electron Beam Irradiation Systems from CGN Dasheng for a purchase consideration of US$1.03 million.

"This will comprise a 3.0 MeV 30mA high frequency high voltage electron accelerator system; under beam and transport systems; and package interlock system," it said.

Ta Win said the company would engage CGN Dasheng to advice on project consultation, management and commissioning of the new plant at its existing manufacturing facilities lat Alor Gajah Industrial Estate in Melaka.

The company will also invest an additional financial commitment of up to RM20 million to operate and commission the new plant.

Ta Win group managing director Datuk Seri Ngu Tieng Ung said the planned facility would mark a significant milestone for the Malaysian electrical wire and cable industry.

Ngu said the plant would provide Ta Win with a distinct competitive advantage.

It will allow Cyprium Wire to use its patented proprietary crosslinking/ionising radiation treatment utilising electron beam cross-linked technology.

"The technology will be used to manufacture and supply polymer insulated and sheathed electrical wire and cable products suitable for broad application in a range of industries," he said.

The plant will have a maximum production capacity of 420 kilometres of irradiation cross-linked wire and cable products per day, equipped with automated controls and line speed accelerator beam synchronisation.

Ngu said the new plant would also enable Ta Win to cater to growing industry demand for localisation of electrical wire and cable products in the domestic manufacturing sector, while leveraging on CGN Dasheng's proven expertise in research and development in the field of nuclear science and technology.

He said at the same time, with the electron beam cross-linked technology, Ta Win would be able to compete in the global electrical wire and cable markets.

"To this end, we are confident that this new venture will enhance the company's prospects given the rise in demand for electrical wires and cables amid global decarbonisation efforts, coupled with increasing urbanisation and growing infrastructure expenditure worldwide," he added.
