EG Industries Bhd expands manufacturing to cater 5G-ready technology customers

KUALA LUMPUR: EG Industries Bhd (EGI) has expanded its manufacturing capabilities to encompass 5G routers for a United States (US) based customer.

The electronic manufacturing services (EMS) provider said this new manufacturing venture was the result of the company's RM200 million investments in the past five years across three manufacturing plants in Sungai Petani, Kedah.

The allocation was primarily for the acquisition and upgrades of machinery and equipment including 30 surface mount technology (SMT) manufacturing lines, as well as the setting up of an in-house developed Smart 4.0 manufacturing automation equipped with smart robotic arms and intelligence manufacturing system.

Group chief executive officer and executive director Datuk Alex Kang said the company was now 5G-ready for leading technology customers.

Kang said the company's ability to build complete box-build 5G routers products to US customers highlighted its excellent manufacturing capabilities in meeting the evolving requirements of the technology industry.

"We started with 500 employees six years ago and with the continuous expansion, our workforce has increased to 2,500 employees. We target to add another 1,000 employees in the next two years to contribute towards Kedah's economic welfare through job creation.

"This reaffirms our belief in supporting domestic economic growth by continuously providing employment opportunities for the local community," he said.

EGI has continuously maintained revenue exceeding the RM1 billion mark for four consecutive years from the financial years ended June 30, 2017 (FY17) to FY20.

The company has built a wide customer base by providing printed circuit board assembly and box-build services for consumer electronic and data storage products for our global customers in the US and Europe.

Kang said the company would continue investing in Kedah and sowing more interest from various multinational corporations as the state has ample potential to become a vital manufacturing hub in Malaysia.

"Thus, we hope that EGI's bright future outlook would also translate into opportunities for both Kedah and Malaysia to achieve greater economic growth.

"Our future prospects are evident and would also be enhanced by our commitment towards embracing the Smart City vision, where digital technology is utilised to make urban systems more efficient, cost-effective and environmentally sustainable," he added.
