Khairussaleh to quit RHB as Maybank talk gains traction

KUALA LUMPUR: RHB Banking Group has announced that its group managing director and group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli has tendered his resignation effective from March 25, 2022.

In a statement today, the banking group said it had initiated its transition plan and the selection process was ongoing.

In the interim, Mohd Rashid - who is the group wholesale banking managing director - has been appointed as the officer-in-charge and principal officer of the group.

"The board and management of RHB Banking Group wish to put on record their sincere appreciation to Datuk Khairussaleh for his invaluable contributions during his tenure with the group and wish him success in his future endeavours," it said.

It was rumoured that Khairussaleh would be joining Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank), succeeding its current group president and CEO Datuk Seri Abdul Farid Alias who would step down on August 1.

Khairussaleh has taken his leave of absence with effect from Monday (January 24).

In 2013, Khairussaleh left Maybank's Indonesian unit PT Bank Internasional Tbk (BII) and returned to Malaysia for a "personal reason" after spending five years in the group.

He was BII president-director at the time.

The unexpected resignation came a month after he was nominated for the CEO post of Maybank back then.

Khairussaleh was appointed as RHB managing director and CEO on May 5, 2015.

He joined the group in December 2013 as deputy group managing director and managing director of RHB Bank Bhd.
