PTP hit historic milestone in handling one million TEUs in a single month

KUALA LUMPUR: Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has become the first container terminal in Malaysia to handle more than one million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in a month.

The milestone was recorded on July 31, 2022, at approximately 11.45pm during the loading process at the MTT CEBU vessel, with the final monthly throughput volume registered at 1.001 million TEUs.

PTP, Malaysia's largest container terminal, is a joint venture between Malaysian-based MMC Group and Netherlands-based APM Terminals.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong lauded PTP for its sterling performance in achieving the latest record despite the challenging business environment.

Wee said this latest record-breaking milestone and other accomplishments set by PTP over the years underlined the value of the maritime sector to Malaysia's economic well-being and the importance of trade to the nation.

"PTP's strategic approach to continuously enhancing efficiency and optimising its footprint has served tremendously in keeping the nation's competitive advantage in an increasingly competitive global market," he said in a statement.

PTP chairman Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh said this latest milestone has further underscored PTP's position as the busiest container terminal in Malaysia.

"This achievement results from outstanding dedication and commitment from everyone to setting up the right and sustainable business conditions.

"This is especially in applying advanced technological strategy in our day-to-day operation and focusing on delivering integrated customer services to our stakeholders," said Che Khalib.

Earlier this year, PTP became the first container terminal in Malaysia to surpass 11 million TEUs in throughput volume in a year, further strengthening PTP's position as one of the top 15 global ports.
