KUALA LUMPUR: Pertama Digital Bhd (PDB) has appointed Datuk Seri Dr Nik Norzrul Thani as its new director and member of the board.
The company said this appointment is the first since the disposal of PDB's stake in China-based textile company BeTop Group Ltd and marks a significant step in the transformation of PDB.
Nik Norzul is currently the chairman and senior partner of Zaid Ibrahim & Co, a member law firm of ZICO Law.
He advises various legal matters, including Islamic finance, banking, offshore finance, debt restructuring, and international, corporate, and commercial law.
His advisory work also includes debt and corporate restructuring transactions and issuing private debt securities, including Islamic financial instruments for domestic and international.
Nik Norzul has also been legal counsel for several mergers and acquisitions and advises on regulatory and compliance issues.
PDB seeks to leverage his extensive experience in these critical areas as the company continues on a growth trajectory.
Independent non-executive chairman Tun Datuk Seri Zaki Tun Azmi said the appointment is critical in addressing the company's move forward to become a fully Shariah-compliant business and advising on future expansion projects.
Tun Zaki said his extensive experience would be of great value as the company grows and expands locally and abroad.
"We also strive for a greater diversity of our board members with representation from different fields and backgrounds," he said.
