BMW Malaysia beats pre-pandemic sales with 14,400 units sold in 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group Malaysia has surpassed pre-pandemic business performance with over 14,400 units of BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles delivered in 2022.

Out of this, over 70 per cent are locally assembled, cementing the German marque's leading position in the premium segment in Malaysia for yet another successful year.

Managing director Hans de Visser said while the company experienced a slowdown in 2020 and the chip shortage in most parts of 2021, 2022 had been a stellar year of recovery and growth for BMW Malaysia, as it reemerged from the challenges of the last two years.

"Our achievements in 2022 have been nothing short of extraordinary as we not only matched but far surpassed our performance from even before the Covid-19 pandemic.

"It is to our customers, dealers and associates of BMW Group Malaysia that we attribute all this success to – for without their support, dedication and passion for the brand, we would not have so graciously kept our Number One position in the Malaysian premium automotive segment for a third consecutive year," he said in a statement today.

The company said over 31 per cent from all BMW and MINI deliveries were electrified vehicles in 2022, adding to a total of over 25,000 units of electrified BMW Malaysia vehicles on the road to date.

With over 37 per cent in growth compared to the same period from the year before, the BMW brand delivered over 11,800 vehicles, while MINI recorded an upward of 25 per cent with over 1,300 units delivered.

Meanwhile, BMW Motorrad delivered over 1,300 motorcycles, recording a growth of over 20 per cent.

These equate to an increase of over 34 per cent in total deliveries across the BMW Group portfolio from the year before.

2022 saw 17 model variant introductions from the BMW Group portfolio, of which three were all-new fully-electric BMW i vehicles presented at NEXTGen Malaysia – a three-day conference on sustainability by BMW Malaysia in January last year.

de Visser said this year would see an expansion of BMW's product line-up in Malaysia, coupled with new sustainability undertakings in collaboration with key industry players that share the same vision in circularity with BMW Malaysia.

"The year ahead is building up to be an exciting one and we are ready to continue delivering not just the Premium Ownership Experience, as we have done for the last two decades, but also Sheer Electric Driving Pleasure.

"As we charge into the new year, we look forward to new opportunities in every aspect of sustainability, beginning with our existing partners in sustainable solutions," he added.
