Sarawak Consolidated hands over two schools under RM1bil redevelopment

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd, via SCIB Industrialised Building System Sdn Bhd, has handed over two schools in Kanowit, Sarawak under a RM1 billion Daif (dilapidated) School Redevelopment Project's second phase.

SCIB managing director Ku Chong Hong said students will now have a safer and more conducive environment to study following the redevelopment of the two previously dilapidated schools.

Ku said SCIB will continue to seek small to mid-sized projects leveraging its construction arm's engineering, procurement, construction and commission (EPCC) expertise backed by its presence as the leading precast concrete and IBS manufacturer in Sarawak and Sabah.

"Our track record in rural infrastructure spans roads, schools, and clinics, and we are actively pursuing projects in East Malaysia where RM920 million have been set aside for dilapidated schools in both Sarawak and Sabah, which has been allocated RM5.6 billion and RM6.5 billion respectively under the re-tabled 2023 Budget," he said.

As part of SCIB corporate social responsibility, Ku said the company has contributed SK Nanga Pedai and SK Nanga Jagoi with cash donations.

"Additionally, we have donated a number of computers and printers to the schools, aiming to bolster their educational programmes and provide an enriched learning experience for the students," he added.

SCIB Industrialised was awarded the EPCC project valued at RM13.28 million by Sarawak Public Works Department in October 2021.

The company was also recently awarded two school projects, an EPCC subcontract for the construction of Sekolah Kebangsaan Tambay in Kota Samarahan and the rebuilding of a Daif school in SK Kujang Mawang, Tebedu, Serian.

As at the end of fourth quarter of financial year 2023, SCIB's order book stood at a cumulative RM275 million.
