Malakoff to build, operate & maintain solar PV systems at Gas Malaysia sites

KUALA LUMPUR: Malakoff Corporation Bhd will develop, operate and maintain solar photovoltaic systems at three Gas Malaysia Bhd sites.

The sites are Gas Malaysia's headquarters (HQ) in Shah Alam, as well as its southern regional office in Pasir Gudang, Johor and eastern regional office in Gebeng, Kuantan in Pahang.

Malakoff said its wholly-owned subsidiary, Malakoff Radiance Sdn Bhd, had signed a solar power purchase agreement (SPPA) with Gas Malaysia (Gas Malaysia) for the development.

Malakoff will also be installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Gas Malaysia HQ and its office at Jalan Gurney here.

Malakoff managing director and chief executive officer Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib said the collaboration is a step towards realising its commitment to achieve 500 megawatts (MW) of solar projects within the Albukhary group of companies, simultaneously supporting Gas Malaysia's aspiration in advancing environmental sustainability.

"We believe that by incorporating EV charging solutions into a corporate infrastructure serves as a tangible embodiment of that organisation's core values and unwavering commitment to sustainability.

"This initiative truly demonstrates both Malakoff and Gas Malaysia's dedication to align our actions with our words regarding the adoption of green energy, setting a noteworthy example for the industry," Anwar Syahrin added.

To date, Malakoff holds a total of 151 MW of renewable energy generating capacity under its portfolio consisting of projects acquired for large scale solar, rooftop solar and small hydro power generation.

The company said the SPPA is part of its commitment towards UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 7 – affordable and clean energy which focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all.
