Former Axiata chief Jamaludin Ibrahim elected as SEEK's non-executive director

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Axiata Group Bhd chief Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim has been officially elected as SEEK's non-executive director at the company's shareholders meeting.

Jamaludin was appointed as SEEK's non-executive director effective July 3, 2023.

He is the firm's first Asia-based board member in SEEK's history.

Jamaludin's appointment comes as the company lays the groundwork for the expansion of its Asia business by unifying its three online employment marketplaces: SEEK (in Australia and New Zealand), JobStreet (in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore), and JobsDB (in Hong Kong and Thailand).

The exercise is expected to be completed in fiscal year 2024.

SEEK Chairman Graham Goldsmith said Jamaludin's experience in the information technology (IT) and telecommunications sectors in Asia, as well as his various current roles, are a valuable addition to SEEK and supports the firm's continued growth aspirations in Asia.

Jamaludin said he was excited to be part of the technology company's continuous growth journey in Asia.

"This role is especially meaningful to me as SEEK's purpose of helping people live more fulfilling and productive working lives and helping organisations succeed aligns with my passion and values," according to Jamaludin, in a statement issued by SEEK.

Jamaludin has over 40 years of Southeast Asia experience, including 16 years in IT and 23 years in telecommunications.

His executive experience includes serving as chief executive officer (CEO) of Axiata from 2008 to 2020 and as CEO of Maxis Communications Bhd for over eight years prior.

He has also held executive positions with multinational corporations such as IBM and Digital Equipment Corporation.

In addition, he served the Malaysian government in a variety of capacities, including being appointed by Malaysia's former Prime Minister as a member of the Economic Action Council and the Digital Economy Council in 2020.

Jamaludin is a non-executive director of Sunway Bhd and the chairman of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, QSR Brands Holdings Bhd, and AirAsia Aviation Group Ltd.
