KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian multinational low-cost airline AirAsia will resume flights to India's southern city of Thiruvananthapuram, or Trivandrum, in February 2024.

This new route will take flight on Feb 21, 2024 with a frequency of four times weekly.

"Last year marked a momentous milestone for us when we began gradually resuming our key destinations in India, post pandemic. "With this new route launching in February next year, we will soon fly to a total of nine stunning destinations across the country from north to south with a total of 71 flights weekly ‒ with more to come," AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer Riad Asmat said in a statement.

AirAsia is offering all-in one-way fares of RM199 starting today till November 26, 2024 from Kuala Lumpur to Thiruvananthapuram.

All-in one way fares include airport taxes, Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) fee, fuel surcharges and other applicable fees.

Meanwhile, Riad said India is one of AirAsia's most popular destinations for Malaysian travellers.

He said AirAsia holds a market share of 47 per cent of the international air connectivity between the two nations.

Currently, AirAsia operates six direct routes to South Indian cities via AirAsia Malaysia - Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Hyderabad, Kochi, Bengaluru and Kolkata as well as two direct routes to Northern India ‒ Amritsar and New Delhi via AirAsia X.

"Over the last decade and a half, we've drastically transformed the travel landscape in India and connected many millions of travellers to Malaysia and beyond affordably. "We look forward to working closely with the state government to support the tourism industry and further stimulate air travel to Thiruvananthapuram and other cities in India," he added.

AirAsia has flown 800 million guests since 2001.
