CelcomDigi to speed up networks merger

KUALA LUMPUR: CelcomDigi Bhd is looking to speed up the merger of Celcom and Digi networks, aiming to reach a 30 per cent integration milestone by the end of the year.

CelcomDigi chief executive officer Datuk Idham Nawawi said as of Oct this year, the network integration and modernisation have surpassed 80 per cent of the company's plan, covering more than 4,400 sites.

"We might integrate more this year than what we planned earlier, with 30 per cent scheduled for completion this year, 40 per cent next year, and the remaining 30 per cent in the third year.

"But so far, we are on track to achieve the 30 per cent for this year," he said at the press conference of the launch of CelcomDigi all-in fifth generation (5G) and 4G postpaid plans today.  When questioned about setting a new target, Idham said the current target remains as the numbers would not be much different from the initial targets.

Initially, CelcomDigi outlined a comprehensive network integration plan, aiming to conclude within the next 24 to 30 months.

This involves consolidating the 12,000 sites from both Celcom and Digi into a unified network comprising 18,000 sites.

Meanwhile, CelcomDigi has introduced its new Postpaid 5G plans, inviting Malaysians to enjoy greater 5G-enabled connectivity experiences on Malaysia's widest and fastest network.

Available from Dec 1, the new range of all-in postpaid plans with 5G and 4G internet access comes complete with additional attractive extra benefits designed to meet customers' different connectivity needs.

"Consumer offerings on 5G will continue to evolve with trends, demands, and use cases which require converged connectivity plans," Idham said.

He added that the new plans underscore CelcomDigi's commitment to be a brand and network that all Malaysians can trust and rely on to provide them with a reliable 4G connectivity and unleash the power of 5G for all connectivity needs.

With the new CelcomDigi Postpaid 5G plans, customers will have the option to choose from any of the six CelcomDigi Postpaid 5G plans that come with generous Internet quotas and 5G speeds.

The 5G plans will provide customers with access to both 5G and 4G Internet anytime, anywhere.
