Kuala Lumpur-Singapore is busiest in 2023, says OAG

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur to Singapore Changi route emerged as the busiest international airline route, accommodating 4.9 million seats, according to OAG's annual assessment of the world's busiest flight routes between January and December 2023.

This marks a significant climb from its 2022 ranking, when it held the third position among the busiest international routes.

The route from Cairo to Jeddah came in second with 4.8 million seats and a two per cent capacity difference over the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route.

Hong Kong to Taipei came in third as the busiest international route in 2023, with 4.6 million seats available.

OAG reported that this route was the most popular in 2019, but since then, its capacity has decreased noticeably by 43 per cent.

With 4.2 million seats, Seoul Incheon to Osaka Kansai is ranked as the fourth busiest international route in 2023.

According to OAG, nine to 43 per cent of the routes in the international top 10 for 2023 had capacities that were lower than those of 2019.

However, it said that a notable exception is the route from London Heathrow to New York, which stands 1.0 per cent ahead with 3.5 million seats, surpassing its 2019 capacity.
