Bursa Malaysia closes mixed on profit-taking

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia ended the trading day in the red due to profit taking activities. 

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI closed 0.05 per cent or 0.75 points lower at 1,512.36 on Thursday versus Wednesday's close of 1,513.11. 

The key index which opened at 1,513.19 moved between 1,512.36 and 1,521.18 througout the trading session. 

The broader market was mixed with ganers led losers 574 to 361 while 454 counters were unchanged  

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng said investors have shifted their attention to smaller cap stocks due to their attractive valuations and growing potentials. 

"Nonetheless, we believe buying on blue chips will return due to the improving sentiment across the region and undemanding valuations. 

"Hence we anticipate the FBM KLCI to trend within the range of 1,510-1,520 towards the weekend," he said in a note. 

Meanwhile, Thong noted key regional indices closed higher with strong gains in China and Japan. 

"The recovery of Asian equities is being propelled by the positive trajectory of US corporate earnings and China's efforts to enhance its market sentiment," he added.
