Datasonic posts RM16.5mil net profit in Q3

KUALA LUMPUR: Datasonic Group Bhd posted a net profit of RM16.5 million for the third quarter ended Dec 31, 2023 (Q3FY24) versus RM16.7 million due to a slight decline in revenue.

Its revenue stood at RM80.5 million compared to RM82.1 million in the corresponding quarter last year supported by higher autogate supply.

For the nine-month period, its net profit  remained the same at RM53.7 million.

Group revenue rose 5.3 per cent to RM252.6 million from RM239.8 million in the same period the previous year.

The company said the growth was mainly driven by higher demand for passports, smart cards and personalisation services.

For the quarter under review, the company declared a third interim dividend of 0.5 sen per share, bringing the total dividend per share for the current financial period to 1.7 sen.

Datasonic executive chairman Tengku Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Ahmad Tengku Tan Sri Abdullah said the group's priority remains on delivering smooth, uninterrupted and quality products and solutions to customers.

"As a review, in January 2024, Datasonic obtained a contract extension of RM134.95 million for the formulation of Malaysian passports and a contract award of RM28.69 million for the supply of formulation of MyKad.

"This success not only increases our order book and gives us healthy revenue visibility but is also a testament to our proven track record, on-time delivery and technical expertise," he said in a media statement today.

Moving forward, he said Datasonic expects continued demand for passports and MyKad, driving the company's growth.

He added that the usage for i-Kad has gained good traction, which in turn supports the positive outlook.

"At the same time, Datasonic is also occupied in business development, as well as leveraging our experience and expertise to strengthen and diversify our business.

"Overall, Datasonic's outlook continues to be bright supported by our enlarged order book, as well as our cautious approach and our healthy balance sheet," he said.
