Bursa Malaysia ends morning session mixed with key index clawing back into positive territory

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed the morning trading session mixed, as the key index clawed into positive territory as the broader market turned negative.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) gained 0.05 points to 1,537.59 from Monday's close of 1,537.54.

The benchmark index commenced the session 1.48 points lower at 1,536.06, fluctuating between 1,532.07 and 1,540.51 over the course of the trading period.

On the broader market, losers outnumbered gainers 480 to 417, while 461 counters were unchanged.

In a note today, Malacca Securities Research expects buying support to continue on the local front, especially in the small cap segment, despite the weaker sentiment abroad.

The firm believes that buying interest may build within the technology sector with the recovery in the earnings in the recent quarterly results.

"Meanwhile, we like the construction as the potential revival of the KL-SG HSR coupled with the data center investments that are expected to increase going forward will provide support to the sector.  "Besides, we favour consumer, solar, chemical, finance and oil and gas (O&G); the latter is likely to stay firm amid the stronger underlying crude oil price," it noted.
