New Triton roars into Malaysia

MITSUBISHI Motors Malaysia launched its updated Triton this week, with improved safety and features as well as an extended warranty.

The new model is priced from RM77,390 on-the-road (OTR) without insurance but with Goods and Services Tax (GST) for the basic Triton Quest and all the way up to RM130,900 for the Triton VGT Adventure X.

The enhanced Triton now comes with seven airbags (front, side and curtain airbags as well as driver’s knee airbag) and now scores the maximum five-star rating in the Asean new car assessment programme crash (NCAP) test (adventure variant).

The new version of the Triton also gets a 200,000km or five-year warranty, whichever comes first.

The VGT variants also have active stability and traction control (ASTC).

On the exterior, the new Triton gets a new dark chrome grille and revised side steps that are said to improve entry and egress.

Automatic bi-xenon HID headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights (DRLs) are standard on the VGT.

For the Adventure X variant, exterior improvements include 17-inch dual-tone rims and a front bumper shield extender.

The interior has also seen upgrades with a new four-spoke multi-function steering wheel and new instrument cluster.

The VGT Adventure variant also gets an eight-way adjustable power seat, leather, and a reverse camera.

The Triton is powered by a 2.4-litre MIVEC turbodiesel with variable valve timing. In variable geometry turbo (VGT) guise, it produces 178hp and 430Nm of torque.

Transmission options include a five-speed auto with manual mode as well as a new six-speed manual for the VGT MT.
