Refreshed GLA unveiled, from RM239,888

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd has introduced the facelifted Mercedes GLA to the Malaysian market, offering three variants with a starting price of RM239,888.

The three variants presented were the GLA 200 Urban Line, GLA 250 4Matic AMG and the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4Matic.

“The new-generation GLA with its unique character and progressive appearance is destined to become a style icon. With a sporting soul and a dynamic character combined with its stylish highlights, it is perfectly suited for an active lifestyle,” said its vice-president of sales and marketing passenger cars Mark Raine during the launching ceremony.

The facelifted compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) has received a bunch of upgrades on its exterior and interior which include - front bumper, side intake vents, front grille, rear bumper, rear diffuser, instrument cluster, new seat upholstery and trim, new alloy wheels and a new “Canyon Beige” colour option.

Other upgrades available in the GLA includes - an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support entertainment system, 360-degree surround-view camera system, reverse camera and an eight-inch free-standing display screen.

All three variants came fitted with easy-pack tailgate, keyless-go starting function, active brake assist, cruise control, thermotronic climate control system and attention assist.

The GLA facelift came with the same powertrains and output as its previous versions. The GLA 200 is powered by the 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 154 hp at 5,300 rpm and 200 Nm of torque from 1,250 to 4,000 rpm. Meanwhile, the GLA 250 is equipped with the 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that offers 211 hp at 5,500 rpm with 350Nm of torque from 1,200 to 4,000 rpm. The two engines are mated to a seven-speed 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Malaysian-spec GLA 200 and GLA 250 are equipped with an off-road comfort suspension, a package that presents the car with a 30mm higher stance and improves the vehicle’s axle articulation and off-road capability.

Mercedes also offered a number of drive modes in its Dynamic select. Both the GLA 200 and GLA 250 gets the Comfort, Sport, Eco and Individual options. However, the GLA 250 has the additional Off-Road option, which adds the downhill speed regulation and an off-road transmission mode in the Off-Road option.

The facelifted Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4Matic is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine which is able to churn out 381hp at 6,000rpm and 475Nm of torque from 2,250 to 5,000rpm. It is paired to an AMG Speedshift DCT seven-speed sports transmission.

Mercedes-Benz claims that the all-wheel drive AMG 45 4Matic is capable of sprinting from zero to 100kph in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 250kph.

The Mercedes Benz GLA 200 Urban Line is priced at RM239,888, while the GLA 250 4Matic AMG Line is retailed for RM269,888. Meanwhile, the range-topping Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4Matic goes for RM408,888. All prices are inclusive of six per cent GST but excluding insurance.
