3 team up to develop electric buses

GO Automobile Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, together with Mara Liner Sdn Bhd and Higer Bus Company Ltd, have established a strategic partnership to develop, manufacture and engineer the production of electric buses for the local market.

Through the cooperation, Mara Liner has been appointed as the authorised sales representative, as well as provider of aftersales service for all Go Auto products, including electric buses.

Go Auto executive director Datuk SM Azli SM Nasimuddin Kamal said his company had handed over an electric bus to Mara Liner for the purpose of training and research.

“We are honoured to be given the opportunity by Mara Liner. This cooperation is expected to cost more than RM30 million, and will boost Go Automobile and Mara Liner in the nation’s transportation industry via leveraging on electric vehicle (EV) technology.

“This indirectly places Go Automobile among the leading companies that are committed to developing the EV ecosystem. We are also committed to develop EV components for the Malaysian and Asean markets,” said Azli.

Last April, Go Automobile and Mara Liner signed a memorandum of understanding at the Memacu Agenda Bumiputera exhibition, witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Under the agreement, Go Automobile would supply electric buses to Mara Liner for a programme under the UNIBUS Initiative, which will be implemented at Universiti Technology Malaysia in Skudai, Johor, by January.
