PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) recently launched the enhanced Petronas Dynamic Diesel Euro 5 with Pro-Drive, a new generation sulphur-free diesel engineered to deliver a smoother drive and superior fuel economy.
Pro-Drive is an additive to the Euro 5 diesel made with professional drivers and daily drivers in mind, hence the “Pro” and “Drive” in its name.
It is also a combination of reformulated higher-quality base diesel from the Petronas refinery and uniquely formulated chemistries designed for today’s advanced common-rail diesel engines.
The Pro-Drive technology was made available by what Petronas has continually learnt from its partnership with the Petronas De Rooy IVECO team competing in the Dakar Rally, the world’s toughest and most demanding rally.
The team’s victory last year is also a testament to the fuel technology that goes into the Petronas Dynamic Diesel with Pro-Drive.
PDB’s managing director and chief executive officer, Datuk Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus, said at the launch: “Petronas’ involvement in the Dakar Rally has provided us a platform to study the requirements of the latest high-performance common-rail direct-injection diesel-powered vehicles and continuously improve our products to meet even the most extreme driving conditions.”

Based on the laboratory tests conducted, the Petronas Dynamic Diesel Euro 5 with Pro-Drive delivers three key benefits for modern diesel vehicles.
The first one is removing deposits and protecting the injectors to allow the fuel to effectively clean the engine.
The Euro 5 diesel with Pro-Drive also has a higher heating value, which translates to more energy per kilogramme of fuel to deliver better fuel economy.
Lastly, the fuel will help ensure easier starting, less vibration and a smoother drive, with its recorded higher cetane number to improve combustion.
Cars Bikes & Trucks was brought for a drive to Terengganu in a Mitsubishi Triton to have a hands-on experience of the new Dynamic Diesel Euro 5 with Pro-Drive, together with a few other media representatives and owners of pickup trucks, such as the Ford Ranger, the Toyota Hilux and the Nissan Navara.
From the sharing session held after the drive, most of the owners said that their vehicles’ engines felt noticeably smoother and had better power delivery.
The drive was conducted as a subsequent event from last year’s extensive local tests of the Euro 5 diesel prototype, which took place in Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu and Pahang.
The Petronas Dynamic Diesel Euro 5 with Pro-Drive is currently available at 58 selected Petronas stations with planned expansion to 115 stations by the middle of next year, including Sabah and Sarawak.
