MERCEDES-Benz Malaysia (MBM) recorded its fourth consecutive year of record-breaking sales last year with 12,045 vehicles sold.
It registered 2.3 percent growth, driven mainly by the new E-Class sedan and GLC sports utility vehicle (SUV) .
“We are delighted to have delivered a record-breaking 12,045 Mercedes-Benz cars to customers in Malaysia, confirming our position as the leading premium brand. Our locally produced vehicles, especially the new E-Class and the GLC have been our growth drivers. We are confident of continuing on this path,” said Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, sales and marketing vice-president, Mark Raine.
Locally produced limousines accounted for 7,041 unit of the units sold. This was followed by SUVs (2,599 units), especially the locally produced Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 and GLC 250.
Compact cars saw sales of 2,031 units, while 374 units were sold from the aspirational Mercedes-Benz Dream Cars collection.
MBM launched 17 new models last year and attributed the “exceptional demand” for the cars to the introduction of a varied portfolio.
In terms of sales, June was the best month for MBM, with sales of 1,210 vehicles.
The company’s after-sales division also recorded growth, with 128,072 vehicles serviced.
For its financial year 2017, Mercedes-Benz Services Malaysia financed four out of every 10 Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold and achieved a portfolio of RM2.2 billion
Last year, Mercedes-Benz made more than RM1 billion investment in the Malaysian market. One-third of the amount was invested in its Pekan Production Plant and MBM Training Academy in Puchong, Selangor.
