MBW 2018 draws 350,000 motorcycle enthusiasts

The roar of engines from various motorcycles could be heard at the Malaysia Motoring Week (MBW) 2018 at the Serdang Malaysia Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS) last week.

The three-day event, organised by Federation of Malaysian Motoring Associations (GPMoto), attracted more than 350,000 local and foreign enthusiasts.

The event was opened by Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, who is a well-known motor enthusiast, and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The highlight of the show was the Johor Sultan’s collection of vehicles consisting of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, coaches, Morgan three-wheel vehicles, four-wheel drive vehicles and Mack trucks.

Various government and private agencies participated in the exhibition, including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Road Transport Department (RTD), Tourism Malaysia, Benelli, Royal Enfield and Harley-Davidson.

GPMoto president Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the turnout during MBW 2018 exceeded the initial target of around 100,000 people.

“This kind of event bridges borders. All two-wheeler enthusiasts will attend, regardless of what kind of engine you have, or how powerful it is.”

As soon as the event opened at 9am yesterday, which was the last day, visitors swarmed MAEPS and took part in activities, such as the zumba session, meet-and-greet session with TV3 celebrities, lucky draw and stunt demonstration.

Lucky draw prizes worth more than RM500,000 were offered to visitors, including 40 Yamaha Y15ZR and Benelli RFS 150i motorcycles.

The hot weather did not prevent visitors from staying on until late afternoon to participate in activities and shopping for motorcycle products.

In the evening, visitors were treated to a concert, featuring artistes such as Datuk Ramli Sarip, Wanie Mentor, Datuk Jeffrydin, Datuk A. Rahman Hassan, Ella, Datuk Awie, Akim and The Majistret.
