SYM unveils 3 new models

SYM Malaysia is getting serious in the Malaysian motorcycle market with the simultaneous launch of three new models.

Two are replacements for existing models while the other could be the catalyst for other manufacturers to follow suit.

The two new replacements are the Jet14 scooter and the Cruisym while the revolutionary new model is the VF3i “Supercub”.

The Jet14 is a 125cc air-cooled single cylinder scooter is Euro-4 compliant. Designed to cater for the urban commuter looking for an affordable short distance scooter, the Jet14 produces 10hp at 8,500rpm and 9.2Nm of torque at 7,000rpm.

Weighing in at 128kg, the Jet features 14-inch wheels front and rear, twin front halogen headlamps, LED taillights and an underseat storage space enough for one full-face helmet.

The Jet14 is equipped with a 7.5-litre fuel tank and the low seat height (771mm) and flat floor makes it suitable for female riders.

The Cruisym 250i is a fairly large scooter, equipped with a 249cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder powerplant. The Cruisym is also Euro-4 compliant while producing 21.1hp at 7,500rpm and 23.5Nm of torque at 5,500rpm.

Undoubtedly the star of the show, the VF3i features the largest-ever capacity engine designed into an underbone platform.

The powerplant is a liquid-cooled 185cc SOHC single-cylinder that is Euro-3 compliant. It produces 17.7hp at 8,500rpm and 15.3Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm.

The VF3i is equipped with a six-speed gearbox and rolls on 17-inch wheels front and rear, shod with 90/80 and 120/70 tyres, respectively.

The VF3i also features possibly the largest front brake in its class, a 250mm disc clamped by a dual-piston caliper. The rear brake is a 200mm disc.

Suspended by a telescopic front fork and a non-adjustable monoshock rear, the VF3i is right in the ball park compared to its rivals.

A seven-litre tank is adequate for around 170km of riding and the VF3i is also equipped with a digital LCD speedometer and analogue tachometer. Top speed claimed by SYM is 155kph.

The VF3i is available in Red or Blue with a Special Edition (SE) in Matte Black. It will be available from next month at all authorised SYM dealers at a retail price of RM8,467 for the standard model and RM8,785 for the SE, including Goods and Services Tax (GST).

The Cruisym 250i comes in at RM20,021 for the standard model while the SE is priced at RM20,339.00, including GST. The Jet14 retails at RM7,089 including GST.

All prices exclude road tax, registration and insurance.
