BMW Malaysia introduces first battery electric vehicle

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Malaysia unveiled its first battery electric vehicle, the BMW i3s at the Malaysia Autoshow 2019.

Priced at RM279,000, the i3s has a range of 260km and is powered by a synchronous electric motor and a lithium-ion high-voltage battery located in the vehicle floor.

Equipped with a Single-Speed Automatic Transmission, the i3s has a maximum output of 184hp and a maximum torque of 270Nm, which gives it a top speed of 160kph. Acceleration is brisk, reaching 100kph from a standstill in just 6.9 seconds.

The combined electric power consumption of the i3s on NEDC cycle is at 14.3kWh for every 100km.

The i3s comes with standard Full LED headlights. As with keeping to its focus on sustainability, 80 per cent of all visible surfaces within the vehicle are made with recycled and renewable resources to maintain a low carbon footprint.

Despite its eco-sensitivity, BMW has made an attempt to incorporate a focus on handling performance in the i3s, equipping it with a standard sports suspension, with a 10mm drop in ride height, and an increased track width of 40mm better handling. The car also rolls on 20-inch BMW i light alloy wheels.

Inside, there's a 10.25-inch control display, as well as a 5.7-inch TFT instrument display.

Other features in the car include Dynamic Stability Control and Dynamic Traction Control, as well as Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Brake Control and the Antilock Braking System with Brake Assist.

Also included is Driving Assistant Plus, which includes a rear-view camera, Park Distance Control, active cruise control with Stop & Go function, Collision and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking function and Traffic Jam Assistant.
