KUALA LUMPUR: Five variants of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 range are on offer, with prices starting at RM154,379.
The line-up starts with the four existing variants, which are the base 2.0G 2WD Mid (RM137,379.20), 2.0G 2WD High (RM154,379.20), 2.5G 2WD High (RM167,770.40) and 2.2D 2WD High (RM172,532.80).
The new addition to the line-up is the 2.5G 4WD High, priced at RM181,770.40.
The 2019 CX-5 is locally-assembled at Mazda’s production facility in Kulim, Kedah.
To start with the oily bits, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 has three types of powerplant across the range as indicated on the trim names.
The entry-level 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G petrol engine makes 162hp at 6,000rpm and 213Nm of torque at 4,000rpm, while the more powerful 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G petrol unit makes 173hp at 4,500rpm and 257Nm of torque at 3,250rpm.
The diesel 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D produces 173hp and 420Nm of torque at 2,000rpm. Do note that the diesel variant is now available in front-wheel drive only, as opposed to all-wheel drive on the previous one.
Lastly, the new top-of-the-range 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine churns out 228hp at 5,000rpm and a whopping 420Nm of torque at 2,000rpm.At 10.5:1, this engine has one of the highest compression ratios of any four-cylinder turbocharged engine.
This is achieved by oil pump with continuously variable displacement, multi-hole injectors, Mazda’s Dynamic Pressure Turbo and cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) all working to deliver precise combustion and reduced energy loss.
All engines are paired to a six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission and accompanied by Mazda’s i-Stop idling and G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) as standard.
Standard exterior equipment comprised of LED headlights, tail lights, fog lights and daytime running lights (DRL), except for the base 2.0 2WD Mid which gets a bulb-type DRL.
The two 2.0 variants ride on 17-inch alloy wheels while the rest of the variants are equipped with a set of 19-inch rollers. Tyres are Toyo Proxes.
In the cabin, the new Mazda CX-5 now receives Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, and are accessible via the MAZDA CONNECT infotainment display.
The instrument cluster is also new, featuring a new graphics and configurable TFT LCD screen as available on the 2019 Mazda3.
Exclusive on the 2.5-litre turbo petrol variant is the coloured windshield projection display.
The rest of the cabin is equipped with electric powered front seats, leather upholstery with metal/faux wood trim, electronic parking brake with brake hold and multi-function steering wheel.
In the safety department, the new Mazda CX-5 is fitted with dynamic stability control, traction control system, anti-lock braking system, electronic brake distribution, emergency brake assist, emergency stop signal and hill-launch assist.
Additional features are adaptive front lighting system, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, smart city brake support forward, driver attention alert and smart city brake support reverse.
The colour line-up includes Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Deep Crystal Blue, Sonic Silver, Meteor Gray, Jet Black and Arctic White.
The CX-5 is entitled to a five-year/100,000km manufacturer warranty with five-years/100,000km free maintenance.
