McLaren GT launched at new KL showroom

KUALA LUMPUR: McLaren Automotive has announced the arrival of the GT, the brand’s latest model from a new emerging segment range.

The launch of the McLaren GT was held at the new McLaren showroom in Glenmarie, Kuala Lumpur.

The 420sq m sales facility features sophisticated design architecture, with space for car display, servicing of full McLaren range, retail, and customer lounge areas.

On the ground floor, prospective customers are able to customise their McLaren with the interactive car configurator.

The McLaren Window – a new design feature — provides a unique view into the McLaren Production Centre (MPC) in Woking, England, Britain.

The McLaren Kuala Lumpur is currently the brand’s sole retail presence in Malaysia operated by McFarren Supercars.

George Biggs, managing director of Asia Pacific and China, McLaren Automotive said: “We are delighted to reveal the new showroom location in Kuala Lumpur as Malaysia remains an important market for us in Asia Pacific.

“Since the production of our first car, the iconic 12C, we have evolved considerably with our multi award-winning range of sports and supercars.

“We have since established three product series with the Ultimate, Super and Sports Series.

“The outstanding 720S has received phenomenal response globally.”

Roland Chan, chief executive officer of McLaren Kuala Lumpur said: “Having been appointed the sole official importer and accredited retailer for McLaren Automotive, our performance in the last 18 months has been extremely positive.

“There is tremendous interest in the brand in Malaysia and we have a strong order bank.”

The McLaren GT complements the current range of McLaren sportscars and supercars offered in Malaysia, which includes the 570S Coupé and Spider, 600LT Coupé and Spider, and the 720S Coupé and Spider.

Biggs said the new McLaren GT was designed for clients with a sense of adventure, who were seeking both performance and continent-crossing capability.

The GT is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged dry-sump V8 capable of producing 612hp at 7,500rpm and 630Nm of torque from 5,500 to 6,500rpm.

The output gets to the rear wheels through a seven-speed Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG) automatic transmission and an open differential with McLaren Brake Steer.

Constructed around a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis, the GT has a dry weight of 1,466kg, enabling it to catapult to 100kph from standstill in just 3.2 seconds.

Driver aids include anti-lock braking system, traction control system, dynamic stability control and launch control.

The car rolls on 20-inch wheels up front and 21-inch at the rear, with 225/35 front and 295/30 rear Pirelli P Zero tyres.

The pricing for the new McLaren GT starts at RM908,000 before taxes and options.
