MyTukar, TOC assure guaranteed employment through apprentice programme

KUALA LUMPUR: MyTukar Sdn Bhd said its 12-months apprenticeship programme in collaboration with TOC Automotive College (TOC) will assure its graduates guaranteed employment within myTukar in Malaysia and even regional roles within the Carro Group in South East Asia.

The myTukar Apprentice Programme is expected to produce 100 to 120 successful apprentices in a year. Students will first go through three months of Automotive Assistant Technician Course (AAT) conducted by TOC, following which they will proceed with a nine months' internship at myTukar and Carro's inspection centres.

Apprentices will be paid an internship allowance of RM1,200 a month. They will then receive a minimum salary offer of RM1,800 and above after graduation and securing employment with myTukar or the Carro Group in South East Asia regional offices.

"We are truly delighted to have found a like-minded partner in myTukar in producing future-ready automotive professionals. As Malaysia's fastest-growing online used car selling platform, myTukar is an ideal employer for graduates to hone their skills in a tech-enabled workplace," said TOC executive director said Datuk Iqmal Shafiq.

"TOC's dream is to inspire society to believe in the limitless career possibilities and success of automotive technicians and to enthuse automotive professionals to believe in their positive contribution to society. Industry partnerships are key towards achieving that dream as we seek to empower our graduates with the right attitude, skills and knowledge to achieve global recognition and success," he added.

TOC's role in the programme comprises course module development and delivery; enrolment of students into the programme; interviewing, shortlisting and monitoring of students as well as facilitating placements of apprentices and managing their performance during the nine months' internship.

The course fee will be borne by the students or they may opt for TOC BinaBakat Programme, a programme that aims to nurture more talents and develop quality recruits for the Automotive and Motorsport Industry, which offers both apprenticeship and loan repayment plan for students.

TOC BinaBakat Programme provides education loans for the enrolled courses and the students will only make the repayments through a monthly deduction from their salary or allowance upon obtaining apprenticeship or permanent job placement, subjected to the terms and conditions.

"TOC Automotive College is the leading automotive college in Malaysia with 17 years of pioneering experience in professional automotive education with global affiliations and partner universities. Therefore, we strongly believe that TOC is the ideal partner for myTukar Apprentice Programme as their expertise in recruiting and training complements myTukar's hyper growth expansion plans. Together, we will be able to create employment opportunities for the pool of professional, skilled automotive technicians in Malaysia and South East Asia," said myTukar Sdn Bhd's chief executive officer Fong Hon Sum.

"It is our vision to develop a sustainable pool of next generation tech-enabled automotive professionals that will be relevant in the dynamic and fast-paced automotive industry. We believe in mutually benefiting partnerships and we are extremely pleased to have found the globally recognised expert in automotive education to partner with us in developing the myTukar Apprentice Programme," he added.

With four intakes a year, the next intake for the myTukar Apprentice Programme is in April.
