Education New Zealand celebrates 1 million social media followers with scholarship offer

KUALA LUMPUR: Education New Zealand (ENZ) is offering a NZ$10,000 (RM31,140) scholarship for a current or prospective international student to mark its milestone of reaching one million social media followers across its various platforms, including the Study in New Zealand Facebook page, Twitter, Weibo, WeChat, Instagram and Snapchat.

The scholarship will include tuition and course-related costs at a New Zealand educational institution of the student’s choice.

In order to qualify for the limited-time-only promotion, students must post a comment on ENZ’s 1 Million Cent Scholarship post on its Facebook page by 12pm on 20 July. ENZ will then shortlist 10 candidates to compete in the second round, when scholarship hopefuls must submit their educational background, intention to study in New Zealand and ability to study in New Zealand, before the final winner is announced.

John Laxon, ENZ’s Regional Director of South, Southeast Asia & the Middle East, noted that more than 130,000 students choose to study in New Zealand every year from more than 180 countries worldwide.

“International students are a vital part of our online student communities, and social media platforms play a key role in helping ENZ engage with potential students. Creativity and innovation are at the heart of New Zealand’s education system and we excel at programmes that combine creativity and technology.

“This scholarship is designed with that focus in mind, and provides us with the opportunity to thank our dedicated social media followers by offering them a chance to pursue a positive learning experience in New Zealand.

“There were over 2,000 Malaysian students in New Zealand in 2016, and over the years, we’ve seen an increasing number of Malaysian students choosing New Zealand as their preferred study destination. Through efforts like this, we hope to creatively engage with prospective students from Malaysia and around the Southeast Asia region,” Laxon said.

Current and prospective Malaysian students are welcome to apply for the scholarship. Application for the scholarship is open until July 20, and the winner will be announced on Aug 1.
