Japanese Government scholarships open to Malaysian students

Qualified Malaysians who would like to pursue their studies in Japan are invited to apply for the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho:MEXT) Scholarships for the October, 2019 term.

The two programmes offered are Japanese Studies and Teacher Training. Successful applicants will receive monthly allowances of 117,000 yen (RM4,400) for Japanese Studies and 143,000 yen (RM5,400) for Teacher Training (amount is subject to change for both). The scholarship also covers a round-trip airplane ticket and university fees for entrance examination, matriculation and tuition.

Applicants for Japanese Studies must be between 18 and 29 years of age as of April 1, 2019. This one-year non degree course is only for second or third year undergraduate students majoring in Japanese Language or Japanese Culture enrolled in non-Japanese universities. For the one and a half year Teacher Training non-degree course, applicants must be below 35 years old as of April 1, 2019. The application is open to graduates from universities or teacher training colleges who work as teachers in primary or secondary schools.

Closing date for the application is Feb 13, 2019.

The interviews for both programmes will be held on early March 2019. The Embassy of Japan will notify qualified candidates only (by email and letter) to attend the interview.
