Caring for society, the TAR UC way

KUALA LUMPUR: What are the common problems faced by society today? While there are many, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) highlighted a few, namely: electricity, water, dress code, parking and vandalism.

TAR UC remarked that the ability to think critically about these, and other, social problems and its consequences, are important for the students, considering they are the pillars of society.

"It is important for students to care about all issues before it elevates to a serious communal crisis in the future. Preserving the society should start from cultivating a proper mindset and attitude," TAR UC said in a statement.

In a bid to help in reducing these problems, the university's Year 3 students of Bachelor in Public Relations (Honours) took the initiative to organise a campaign named TAR-U-Care “It’s All Care” to influence youth to take their first steps in making changes.

"Thus, this campaign is to spread awareness to

students that they play an important role and have the responsibility to solve all these issues," the statement read, adding that the campaign was also aimed at motivating people to change their behaviour and attitude.

TAR UC said through campaigns, students would be able to use their creativity in highlighting issues they wish to address.

It said campaigns also encouraged students to think and brainstorm solutions for problems while engaging with the public.

Brainstorming, according to TAR UC, involves teamwork and leads to a student becoming more efficient and productive, allowing the workload to be shared, reducing pressure on individuals and ensuring tasks are completed within a set timeframe.

"Moreover, public advocacy is also one of the ways for students to develop morally and provide opportunities to grow righteously. As the youth community may somehow be involved in some of the ongoing societal issues, campaigns allow students to realise their mistakes and increase their level of concern towards the community."
