Era of smart appliances

Samsung unveils new lines of appliances offering a seamless connectivity experience.

THE experience of the next level of connected lifestyle was what Samsung showcased at its latest Southeast Asia and Oceania Forum in Singapore last week.

Marking its 10th anniversary, this year’s Samsung Forum was a platform to share its business strategy and vision with key partners apart from unveiling its exciting new line-up.

Samsung has defined its unique ability to make seamlessly connected consumer experiences across Samsung devices, from home entertainment to household appliances and its connected solutions.

The products and their variants are expected to be available in the market beginning the second quarter of the year.

“At Samsung, we believe our latest innovations make our consumers’ lives more seamless and connected.

“We remain committed to providing new experiences that exceed the expectations of consumers in the region,” said Samsung Electronics President and CEO of Southeast Asia and Oceania, Steve Lee.

POWERFUL TVS

Its 2019 QLED TV line-up will be available in more than 60 markets this year.

One of the highlights is Samsung’s

98-inch QLED 8K (Q900R) TV, the largest and most powerful yet, says the company.

Adding to the line-up are the 65-inch, 75-inch, 82-inch and 85-inch models. The new QLED 8K TVs come equipped with AI powered quantum processor.

Unveiled by Samsung as an industry first, its machine-learning quantum processor has the capabilities, which it calls AI Upscaling, to learn and compare millions of images that help it to calibrate lower resolution sources and optimise them into 8K-quality content regardless of the original format.

The brand has also upgraded its Ultra Viewing Angle technology that allows backlight to pass through the TV panels more evenly onto the screen.

This is to ensure stunning picture quality from every viewing angle without glare or reflections in the daytime and brightly lit rooms.

Besides that, the adoption of Direct Full Array models has nearly doubled from last year. This technology puts backlit LEDs behind the panel for precise brightness control, allowing the light to be adjusted individually and deliver deeper black reproduction.

The HDR10+ picture processing format is also featured in all Samsung 2019 QLED TVs that will enhance contrast for each scene, and support HDMI 2.1 (8K60P) transmission.

Samsung has added an even wider variety of themes for its Ambient Mode function. The TV does not have to be a boring black box when not in use as users can customise the Ambient Mode to complement the decor of their homes.

Other key products in the 2019 QLED line-up include a suite 4K TVs, including the 4K Q90R, Q85R,Q80R, Q70R andQ60R that range from the 43-inch to 82-inch e.

In total, the expanded 2019 QLED line-up features more than 20 models and includes more large-screen models.

This next-generation 2019 QLED TV line-up will be available at Southeast Asian retailers from this month.

To provide more entertainment options and open platform functionality, Samsung Smart TVs will offer a new iTunes Movies and TV Shows app so users can access their existing iTunes library and browse the iTunes Store to buy content.

Also supporting Apple AirPlay 2, Samsung customers will be able to play content from Apple devices on Samsung Smart TVs.

Samsung’s leading lifestyle TVs, the new The Frame and The Wall, have unique design values and improved resolution after the adoption of QLED display.

CONNECTED KITCHEN

A feature that sets the new Family Hub apart from previous iterations is support for the Bixby that allows a smarter, hands-free, more personalised way to use the hub.

The 2019 Family Hub is now packed with enhanced AI and Internet of Things capabilities. In addition, the Bixby offers more services, allowing users to seamlessly control and monitor smart home devices and services from the kitchen with voice alone.

Bixby’s voice ID technology distinguishes each family member’s voice so everyone can get tailored information for their individual needs.

As it gets smarter, Bixby is also more conversational. Users can now search for a flight ticket, call a taxi and pre-set oven temperature by talking to the Family Hub.

On top of the Family Board which allows families to interact, share photos and access entertainment and recipes, the Family Hub 4.0 has screen mirroring capability. Compatible with a Samsung Galaxy phone, users can answer calls and play music on the fridge.

With the seamless integration of Smart Things, the Family Hub is like the heart of the home as it can connect and control hundreds of Samsung and third-party smart home devices with the use of a 21.5-inch refrigerator screen.

The refrigerator has cameras inside so users can “view inside” with their smartphone while at the store or adding items to their shopping list and tagging expiration dates.

SPEEDY LAUNDRY

Samsung’s revolutionary Quick Drive technology will put a smile on the faces of many homemakers.

The WW7800M front loader with Quick Drive technology cuts washing time by half and uses only 20 per cent of energy compared to its current model without compromising on cleaning performance.

Its unique Q-Drum technology moves clothes from top to bottom in the drum, and the plate in the back of the drum introduces a back and forth movement. It creates a revolutionary dynamic action powered by double forces that quickly, gently and thoroughly remove dirt to deliver an intense and complete wash cycle.

The WW7800M washing machine still has Samsung’s Eco Bubble technology which generates fine detergent bubbles to maximise the effects of the detergent even at low temperatures. It comes with Add Wash feature that offers the ability to add clothes at any time during the cycle, and even detergent or fabric softener at a later time.

Offering smart features, the IoT-ready WW7800M boasts an AI-powered laundry assistant called Q-rator, which enables consumers to manage laundry finishing time, gives recommendations for optimal wash cycles and monitors for potential problems.

In the cleaning section, Samsung debuts its POWERstick Jet200 cordless vacuum cleaner. This multi-purpose vacuum not only sucks debris, but has been enhanced to double as a mop that can clean stains on floor tiles.

A smart home is the future of living and Samsung has its feet firmly on that vision.
