Lenovo Yoga S730: Slim and sturdy

WHEN it comes to buying a laptop, different people have different needs but at the end of the day one question remains: Is it good enough? And if weight is a priority, you may want to look at the Lenovo Yoga S730.

LIGHTWEIGHT
At 1.2 kilogramme, the S730 is easy to carry around. I almost forgot that it was a laptop I was having in my hand, not papers.

With a thickness of 11.9mm, the only thing that worried me was whether I would accidentally leave it among stacks of paper, or anywhere else.

STURDY
Being used to thick laptops, I was a bit nervous handling the Yoga S730 as I assumed it was fragile. However, I soon realised that the laptop is more than just a beauty encased in sandblasted premium aluminium. The machine is sturdier than I thought it.

Available in two colours, Platinum and Iron Grey, the laptop is not only charming on the outside, but on the inside too. The Dolby Vision advanced imaging technology on its 13.3-inch Full High Definition (FHD) wide-angle display with Intel HD 620 graphics also made viewing great.

SOUND SYSTEM
Today, sound is just as important as visuals and the S730 did not discount the importance of its audio quality. With the Dolby Atmos Speaker System, the Yoga S730 offers a home theatre experience It’s almost as if you can feel the sound. The combination of sound and height virtualiser technologies create a 3D space where the sound flows above and around you, offering a surround sound.

SMART ASSISTANCE
Available in 8th Gen Intel Core i7 or i5 processor options, the laptop proved its capability in multitasking streaming videos, running apps while getting work done.

The S730 is also equipped with Alexa virtual assistant. Setting up the machine was also a breeze. I literally set it up while typing an article as the step-by-step assistance voice command made it easier; all I needed to do was connect the laptop and just answer the questions asked by Alexa to complete set up.

The free-to-download voice-controlled app is also there to help users with playlists, recipes and others. All you need to do is ask.

Although not as powerful as its big brother, the ThinkPad, the Yoga S730 delivers as expected. Those who need a comfortable typing scenario, with some social media browsing and some light gaming will find the S730 is more than adequate.

Retailing from RM3,859 this laptop is the most affordable, thinnest Yoga ever produced by Lenovo. With three USB-C 3.1 ports, it not only offers high mobility, it is also good as a charger.

Verdict: 4/5
