#TECH: Seven free video conferencing tools for businesses

CYBERJAYA: In a move to assist companies adopt digitally powered WFH arrangements during the Movement Control Order (MCO), seven global digital technology companies with operations in Malaysia, in collaboration with Ministry of Communications and Multimedia through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), are offering complimentary remote collaboration tools with video conferencing facilities to all businesses in Malaysia, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). These digital innovations will help employees stay connected with their companies and team members to ensure business activities run normally. The global tech giants include Alibaba, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Cisco, Google, Microsoft, Tencent and Zoom.

According to MDEC CEO, Surina Shukri, this new pandemic has forced companies to rethink how the world does things and the way businesses have to operate.

“Business owners have to now find that balance between unexpected disruptions, while protecting the health and welfare of their employees. Already, all employers are analysing existing company policies to determine whether any adjustments for current working processes are needed. More specifically, they must be ready to address the significant impacts this global pandemic will create. Now is the time to activate the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and go fully digital,” she said.

MDEC is confident that with the country’s robust digital infrastructure, having the support from the digital and tech companies, as well as its digitally savvy population, Malaysia is well poised to be the location of choice for robust digital investments. It already serves as a primary business continuity hub for most multinational companies (MNCs). Now, more than ever, MDEC is firmly committed to drive forward digital investments, navigating the current challenges brought on by Covid-19.

“MDEC itself has used these remote collaboration digital tools to participate in multiple industry-focused conferences – specifically, interactive web-seminars with ecosystem partners. Additionally, we have also organised multiple industry-focused events like the recent Data Economy Immersion virtual conference with key market players and various workshops to share eCommerce and business management skills and tips,” said Surina.

The body continues to encourage more organisations to take advantage of these offerings. In fact, it welcomes even more digital companies to come forward with similar pro bono services to help Malaysia better manage all disruptions that this global pandemic created.
