#TECH: Malaysia first in region to get 'Order & Collect' feature on McDonald's app

SHAH ALAM: McDonald's Malaysia has launched a new feature called Order & Collect on McDonald's mobile app, the first market in the Southeast Asia region to roll out this feature. It allows users to order, pay, and choose how and where they want to collect their order, directly from their mobile phones.

Promising a more seamless customer experience, McDonald's Malaysia's vice president and chief marketing officer, Melati Abdul Hai said that the company consistently strives to enhance customers' experience, be it in store, online or through the McDonald's app.

"This (Order & Collect feature) won't be the end as we will continue to grow and expand our services and features along with our customers' demand", she said at the launching event which was held at McDonald's Section 3 in Shah Alam.

With the new feature, customers can opt to collect orders through four available channels at their selected McDonald's restaurant. They can opt for Takeaway where customers can skip the ordering queue in the restaurant by ordering directly on their mobile, and collect their orders from the takeaway counter. For the Dine-in option, customers can relax, grab a seat in the restaurant, order on their mobile, enter the table number and have their orders served to their table in the restaurant. For customers who prefer a seamless, no parking required pick-up, the Drive-Thru option allows customers to order ahead of time and collect at the restaurant's Drive-Thru within two hours after payment, which can be made via Visa or Mastercard.

The fourth option is the Drive-In. This option allows customers to park their car at the designated parking spot at the restaurant of their choice before placing their order on the McDonald's app. The selected restaurant will then prepare the order immediately and deliver it to the customer's car.

"At McDonald's Malaysia, we're always thinking of new and innovative ways to improve our services and provide only the best customer experience. Their wants and needs have changed, and convenience has become a priority. With the Order & Collect feature, we are eliminating the hassle of queuing and waiting to order – and making it more seamless for customers to enjoy their favourite McDonald's meal," added Melati.

The Order & Collect feature was first introduced in October 2021 at selected restaurants in Klang Valley and has since expanded to all McDonald's restaurants nationwide.

"The rapid change of consumer demands and expectations has required F&B companies to be more agile, and at McDonald's, we have had to move fast in the same rhythm as market changes.

"Technology and digitalisation will continue to play a key role in moving our business forward, and our focus will be on providing a more enhanced and personalised experience to our customers, especially through our McDonald's app," said Melati.

Launched in April 2018, the McDonald's app has quickly become one of the top apps in Malaysia. The app has since garnered up to nine million downloads on the App Store and Google Play Store, and is one of the most popular apps when it comes to great value and savings for customers' favourite McDonald's meals.

Until March 6, 2022, customers who spend RM25 with the Order & Collect feature and make payments with Visa will enjoy free rewards every week.
