Tried & tested: Helios hairdryer

A fast, professional hairdryer gives head-turning results, writes Meera Murugesan.

THERE was a time when I could wash my hair, towel-dry it and step out of the house confident that my hair would look fine.

That is now a distant memory. These days, my hair needs a lot more assistance and a hairdryer has become my constant companion.

Leaving my hair to air-dry these days just results in frizzy, flat or limp locks (if too much conditioner is used). So after each wash, I use a hair dryer to get it at least partially dry.

A good hairdryer should meet certain criteria in my opinion. It should give you a good, strong blast of air for quick drying, beat frizz and not be overly hot as this can damage hair.

GHD’s Helios professional hairdryer was developed in conjunction with top physicists, engineers and styling professionals.

Its lightweight and longer life brushless motor is designed for speed, creating a powerful yet highly controlled airflow travelling at 120kmh to drastically speed up your styling routine.

This hairdryer definitely delivers a powerful air flow. The minute I switch it on, I am taken aback at the airflow, even at the lowest setting.

WIND IN YOUR HAIR

I love drying my hair under cold air and with its strong airflow, the Helios makes this very easy.

In just 10 minutes, I go from damp, towel-dried hair to almost dry locks by just using the cold setting. The cool air feels great on my scalp too.

The hairdryer combines an internal aerodynamic design with a bespoke contoured nozzle. This makes it all the more easier to match your styling needs — whether you want sleek and straight hair or loads of volume.

Using it gives one a salon experience because it functions just like those used by professional stylists.

While I mainly use it on the cold setting, the hot setting isn’t overly hot or uncomfortable for regular use.

And because of the strong airflow, my wavy hair looks sleek with added volume and definitely less frizz.

Unlike some hairdryers, the Helios isn’t too heavy either despite its strong capacity. This makes styling one’s hair more comfortable. Its beautiful design and lovely colours add to its appeal.

The Helios will be available for sale at selected hair salons in Malaysia from next month. It’s priced at RM910.
