#FASHION: Reunite in style

SOMETHING for everyone. Khoon Hooi's Chinese New Year collection draws inspiration from the reunion of young and old, the hallmark of the Lunar New Year.

With this in mind, the collection looks into the fashion needs of the whole family, from the person who wants to pay homage to Chinese culture, to the young who want to showcase traditional looks in a more trendy way.

"We still have traditional looks but we also wanted to offer something that all family members could pick and wear," says Khoon Hooi, referring to the Khoon Hooi Chinese New Year 2024 collection.

The collection has been carefully curated to captivate three generations of customers.

Fun, modern cheongsams offer something different for the woman of today, remaining wearable post Chinese New Year as well, while peek-a-boo details on dresses certainly add to their appeal.

A-line dresses in rich fabrics meanwhile make a comfy yet trendy statement on a day filled with tradition.

A modern qipao set made up of a draped crop top with shoulder pads and a tapered skirt adorned with a bow at the side, adds to the festive mood and is targeted at younger members of the family.

The cheongsam, although a traditional garment, can be fun and trendy to wear and that is conveyed through this collection, says Khoo Hooi, who hopes to revive an interest in this timeless garment among the younger generation.

"Yan Xi" - a striking duchess satin mini dress in a hot pink shade decorated with bling in the form of crystal chains is another showstopper in the collection.

Fabrics like textured satin and even a light tweed feature in the collection which doesn't just pay homage to traditional red but also embraces other bold colours like orange and green.

For men, "Heng" shirts in a rich blue shade, which also come in a champagne colour when worn reversed, add elegance and class while the cloud prints and jade buttons lend a dressy finish.
